That’s probably about right for a motorcraft branded filter. Our local Walmart has a spot on the shelf for them and sells them around $5, but they have always been empty every time I’ve been in there.
honestly, your best bet is to stock up on NAPA gold filters when they have their filter sale. You can get them less than $5 each on the sale.
the NAPA Gold filters are a premium filter that has every feature that the motorcraft has. Silicone ADBV being the most important. Honestly, when you look at the metrics, the Gold filters are slightly better than the Motorcraft.

I wonder when they changed.
I’ve got some from recent oil changes that I haven’t thrown out yet. I’ll have to cut them open and see what they are like.

When I'm looking to re-supply my own stash of Motorcraft FL-820S filters I shop eBay for the best price in bulk (12 units) including shipping, taxes etc to my front door---just over $6 each, sometimes less.

Rock Auto website had a sale on FL500's a couple months ago. I bought a few at 4$ a piece. The last I looked the didn't have the sale (about a month ago). However, Rock Auto charges shipping fees. I ordered the filters with other parts. (I use FL500 on both of my vehicles.)
