I havn't used it much as of late, but last fall while putting it away and again upon start up this year, my '41 ton and half with an eight and a Ford carburetor just about makes your eyes water from the exhaust fumes. It doesn't run terrible, but the odor tells you something is a miss.
What should I look at first upon teardown? Is there a "most likely, somewhat likely, not likely" list of components that would cause excessive gas into the engine? Bad float, bad seat, power valve, accelerator pump, other? Just trying to come up with a game plan and possibly order some parts ahead time so they are at the ready.
Thanks in advance on any help or information you can give me on this.
I'll take a look at them, but they were not bad the last time I looked at them. That is why I was leaning towards some sort of carburetor component failure. But if by some chance a plug cleaning or replacement improves things, I'll be very happy!
What type of gas is in the tank and how old is it?
Todays gas dose not last long and could also be a cause.
I also take it you dont drive it much?
That also dose not help matters much as it cant heat up enough to burn the condensate out of the crank case or any un-burnt fuel in the oil.
And what about the heat to burn the plugs clean?
Just my .02
