we just replaced all of the door cable sleeves with the aluminum ones found on amazon and now the side and rear doors are stuck shut
the rear door worked for a bit after I finished it but i went back in to tighten the latch bolts and the latch seemed to be sticking so I unstuck it and (stupidly) slammed it shut. now it will not unlock or open.
the handles and cables work fine it is the latches themselves that seem to be stuck in the locked position. the lock levers and solenoids operate fine but the latches themselves will not unlock.
how can I get these doors open to work on them?
is the solution to replace the latches or try to work some penetrating oil into them or?
I’m thinking the ring on the aluminum end did not get pushed into the retainer. You should be able to remove the door panel for access. Probably be able to push it on the retainer. I had a problem with one of mine slipping out, I would bend it and squeeze it with pliers from that access. Eventually got all my doors working.

The cables are all seated and functioning. the latches themselves are stuck in the lock position. the manual and power locks move but do not unlock either door.
You will need to go fishing with the panel off.
You are fishing for the unlock lever in the latch and then the release lever.
You will get it.
Have patience and a beer or some good whisky.
Verify operation of the latch and release cable next time before shutting the door
You can just use a screwdriver to close the latch to test your repair

thank you, thats encouraging.
if the cables are connected properly, why wouldnt they be operating the unlock and release levers in the latch?
Well, originally the cables stretch and the levers bend
I suspect your lever or bracket that holds the cable is bent
The aftermarket cable ends are supposed to fix that issue
But if the cable bracket is bent all bets are off
I still think the slot in the replacement cable end is probably not seated in the retainer.
If I had some parts here I’d show ya. But there are 2 parts to making this work.. New cable end fastened on the cable but the whole cable moves and doesn’t actuate the lever or lock if the slot in the new aluminum end is not in the retainer or eyelet at the lock or latch assembly. And likely the old plastic ones were no longer in the retainer/ eyelet….looking for more verbiage. The old plastic ones break at this point and that’s why they no longer work.
In short if the aluminum replacement end moves with the cable it won’t work. The aluminum end stays stationary as the cable slides and does its thing.
I just replaced the latch mechanism on the sliding door on my 2003. I replaced it because the door would not lock even if the lever was in the lock position. It ended up being the plastic dog bone in the latch that was broken.
I had to order the whole latch from e-bay. While waiting for the latch, I reinstalled the old latch without the broken dog bone, and then the door was always locked. I had to reach inside the door to manipulate the door latch to open it.
The replacement is now installed and works fine.

Mike that sounds like what I am experiencing. can you give me any more detail on how you reached inside the door to manipulate the latch and get it open? a buddy and I were pulling on the lock/unlock lever to try and get it to work to no avail I think it may be broken like yours.
Back to fishing through the little holes and slots in the latch
The inside of the latch mechanism where the levers are is where you are fishing
Use a long pick set
Mitch's problem was the opposite of yours, his would not lock
Your unlatch portion of the latch is broken
Also, slide the cable out of the bracket and go fishing in that hole
