Tire/Wheel Change

Hi all,

I am thinking about changing out the wheels and tires on my 2002 F250. Currently has a 4” lift with 35’s on Fuel 17” Wheels (see photos).

I want to move toward something more stock. I dont want/need the off road tires. I found a set up I like with the 05-08 stock wheels. My question is for the current set up I have, can I just swap any 16,17,18” stock wheels with stock tires onto my current set up?

Current setup

Current setup

this is an idea that I like but with less “knobby” tires

You CAN put wheels from any later offering on your pickup as long as it's a single rear wheel vehicle. However, the backspacing increased by almost 2 inches starting in the 2005 model year so you will need wheel spacers to keep the tires from rubbing the leaf springs on sharp turns or just get used to it. It will look goofy from the front and back too.....think railroad pickup.

thanks for the quick response Cleatus. May be more simple and make more sense to just put less aggressive tires on what I have. I just like the look of the 6.0 wheels in the non-chrome finish

Like cleatus said you will just need some wheel spacers. Lots of people run them. Get a good set of spacers. Loctite and torque them properly and you will never have a issue. Don't just get the cheapest ones on Amazon.

yeah i rarely cheap out on much but definitely not on wheels, brakes, suspension/steering lol. These are 16x7. Is that the factory spec for 99-04? I assume something like this could bolt right on? Sorry I am illiterate with wheel jargon.

Something like that should fit without needing spacers. You only need spacers for 05+ factory wheels cause they have different wider axles and bigger brakes and require different offset wheels.

thank you! Makes sense. Also- running 35’s … what modifications if any do you recommend for suspension and gearing? I am thinking about just moving back towards something like 33’s. I basically want the truck to last me awhile and not blow up my suspension components, transmission, etc.

That listing for those wheels include 2005 so the most important thing you need to know is backspacing. Like Cleatus said the later wheels have increased backspacing which could cause rubbing.

Yep. 4x4 Excursions never got the wider wheel mounting surface width change, bigger brales, or coil spring front suspension like the F250/350 in 2005.

In my opinion (for what it's worth), the 18" wheels offered in 03 and 04 are the best looking wheels. They were offered in the Harley Edition (with corresponding logo) and the plain version without the fancy center caps or logo.

Been on the lookout for a set of these (the plain, lariat version) for years. Finally saw a set on Marketplace that was close by, but the guy had no price listed. Shot him a message asking "How much do you want?"

This man sent back "They're really rare, so I'm not taking any less than $3000."

I told him to have a good day.

I have a set of the factory brushed...not polished...16" set that came off my 2000 F350. I need to put them up for sale...thinking you might be interested, but you're up state and I'm in south Texas. I upgraded both trucks to the 2004 18" wheels and have a 3rd set I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with them...

Brushed factory wheels...

04 King Ranch wheels with 33" tires...

04 Lariat wheels with 35" tires...
