Ford Ranger

Hello, I was wondering if anybody ran across a few problems im having with a 97 Ranger xlt. My window wipers work when there is no delay, when there is a a delay the wipers stop in the middle of the windshield, and basically get stuck there.

I do not know much about horns but i know that when i press the horn the horn will not blow but instead i will here a click coming from the engine. But Im pretty sure i need a new horn??

My dome lights do not also work properly. I am forced to take the bulbs off because the lights will not turn off. If anyone has came across some of these problems or knows whats up i would greatly apreciate your advice.
Thanks
Dan Hauser

did you recently just buy your truck? having so many electrical problems that are not related usually is the fuse box but not in your case. it could be that somehow your truck went for a swim before you bought it or something...for some reason all your electricla contacts (on switches) are all shot and the only thing i can think of is that something (moisture I would bet) somehow got in your innards somehow.

if you're the original owner, i would have no clue and it would be really interesting to find out what it is. the only other thing I can think of is some kind of coolant leak (it is a ford, after all) at the heater core, and instead of the usual steam from the vents, your somehow is getting inside the dash area (leaking ducts?).

Horn: Try a new one. It is clicking so it is getting power.

Dome Lights: One of the door switches is dirty. It is a common problem. It is also a sticky on the top of the forum:

Wipers: I could have sworn someone had said that the switch itself gets dirty. Maybe a forum search as well on that.

I would put a test light in place of the horn and see if you get power to it before buying a new one.

Don't know about the wipers, that could be a bad switch.

The light is probably a door switch problem. Does the door ajar light stay on too?

I'm with Ken on the horn thing. Put a test light on the horn. If you have no power there when it clicks then your relay is bad. ( that would be the click you hear)

The wiper problem is caused by a bad relay. There are two for the wiper system, 1 for delay, the other for on. They are located under the hood in a rectangular black box on the drivers side. When you open the lid there are several small square relays that simply unplug. The lid should have the relays labeled. I think the ones you want are forward left. There should also be a relay for the horn in the same box. Good chance that is the horn problem.

Thanks guys

I found out that the problem with the dome light was that i wasnt shutting the door hard enough.

There is no problem with the horn anymore, i did nothing to fix it but it magically is working now. I'm glad i dont have to buy a new horn!!!!!

My only problem is that my window wipers still do not work properly. I found out yesterday that not only do the wipers stop on the windshiled when i have a delay set, The pump does not pump any windshield fluid. I am very confused because the actual wiper motor works because my wipers work when there is no delay. Im thinking i need to purchase and install a new motor. If anyone has ran across this issue please respond.
Thanks again
Dan

I would look at the mult function switch first since they always have problems.

The reason why the wipers and the horn were not working was because i had a bad relay. I had to go to a dealer and get the relay. Thanks
