I added 1 quart, one time and it has just under 33K on it now. Similar posts seem to show that they burn very little oil.

The issue really relates to mileage on engine barring any internal or external oil leaks. My 95 uses 1 to 1.25 qrts in 5,000 mile oil change, no drips under engine. You should not see the oil level go to the the add mark which should be 2 qrts low. The above relates only to broke in engines. This equates to me never having to add oil between changes. New engines (remember mileage not the year of PU) like mtgrzlyman's I don't have data on.

Ford's comments on this subject are pretty definitive. Any engine gas or diesel that uses more than 1 quart per 999 miles will be looked at for cause. Previous must be documented by oil consumption test. Now in reality, 1-2 quarts between changes is not uncommon. In 19 years I have not seen an engine use 1 quart per 999 miles without a huge leak....

My '01 uses a quart @ 3500miles and another half by the oil change at 4500 miles. 1 to 2 quarts does not seem to be too uncommon for a diesel.
