Now, as to that whole Catholics vs. Masonry thing...
Once upon a time, the Pope was the Grandmaster of Freemasonry. Unfortunately, one of the popes (don't remember which one) wanted to be GM without joining the Craft. Well, the membership wouldn't allow that. If he wanted to be the boss, he had to earn it, just like everyone else. That torqued the old boy off, and as a result, the Craft became outlawed by the Catholic Church.
In recent years, though, there have been some inroads made towards closing this rift, but it will be a LONG time before the rift is healed.
Smitty, are you also a Shriner? I belong to Jerusalem Temple, down here in the Bayou Country...

Oh, and Theo, unless you're a Buddhist, Taoist, or Hindu, Your faith is just fine with us.
I've sat with Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Deists, and every variety of Protestant except Jehovah's Witnesses (for some strange reason they don't petition the Lodges).
Years ago as a kid and young man in smaller communities I can remember people saying 'I'll do business with him because he's a mason', or the opposite. Is that loyalty still entrenched in contemporary masons?
No sir, I'm not a Shriner, always wanted to gothru the Scotish and York Rites, but I never had the time ( my daddy use to say that you would always find the time to do the things that you want to do). How bout you Sam?
Thats part of being a brother, take a look at the Shrine hospitals. It's one of the few charities? that you don't have to worry about giving your money to or where it's going. You can bet it's not going to some fat cat exec.
Asked to join, bro Theo?
Ok let me stir the pot a little. I have heard several unsubstantiated rumors that some very subversive things happen amongst the more secretive sect at the higher levels in the Free mMasons. These are suposedly unknown to their masses and I have even see tracts claiming there were satanic rituals involved. I did see a version of thier Bible in a musty old used book store one time but I never read it to see if was any different than any other Bible.

That is probably a result of B.S. propaganda from the early 1800s that was politically motivated. There were lots of lies spread by political apponents of the masons at that time.
Yes and no. DeMolay chapters are sponsored by regular Lodges, but are independent of the Grand Lodge of the United States, and/or any state Grand Lodges.
There's a lot of famous folks that wore the Crown of Youth--Walt Disney, Walter Cronkite, Marion Morrison--better known as John Wayne, and many others, including a recent scandal-ridden President of this country...
Yep, Smitty, I am a Shriner. You ought to look into it, especially since the changing of the rules regarding belonging to the Consistory. Ain't too many better charities than the Shriner's Hospitals.
