I replaced the passenger side a few years ago and it was good. Truck got wrecked and I had to do it again. Then I broke the driver's side trying to swivel it (some WD-40 or whatever should've been applied first). I haven't gotten it on the road since as I'm in the process of getting it back together, but I expect the same results as I had with the original passenger replacement.
Since these reproductions are so much cheaper than OEM I expect some cost reductions in materials and construction is why I ask. I've heard they show more vibrations in the reflected image. After mine broke (from swiveling it same as you) I noticed it vibrating so much that it was hard to use. Gotta find something good to lube this with. Two plates of tightly coupled plastic, I'm thinking silicone or graphite.
UPDATE : The one I bought from an online wrecking yard (Brandywine in MD) was REALLY bad. I asked for a quote on one that was in great shape and received it later so I called to make the arrangements. First I had to get thru 2 very rude people on the fone to get the the right person, should have been a big clue for things to come. $30 shipping costs on a $55 mirror. When it arrived the mirror had about half a dozen marks across it and the mount was all kinds of scraped up. I was going to use my old mount because it was much better. It would not swivel as it should probably because it had never swiveled since new. I clamped the mount in a vise and lubed and flushed the swivel for several days hoping to free it. About the 3rd day it started to free up so I continued flushing and lubing going very slow. Before it ever got free the old plastic in the swivel disintegrated into many parts. Totally bad experience and money wasted. Ordered the LMC unit as suggested earlier ($57 delivered), it arrived today looking exactly like the original. Installed and hoping for the best. I'll probably never do business with an online junker ever again.
After replacing one on my van with a Ford one for 243 bucks
I was pissed to find out the 58 dollar ones off Ebay are just as good
Replaced a Rav4 mirror the other day for a school teacher that was only 47 bucks
How long ago did you install them ? Are they as stable (vibration in the view) as the OEM going down the road ?
i had the hot garbage ford called power mirrors on my 97. The drivers side broke, so i replaced it with the rockauto unit. Lasted maybe 3 months til the pot metal stiffening arm broke off. It took a while but i sought out a pair of the gooseneck style mirrors. 10000% better.
I have been using the cheap ones for several years now with no troubles with vibrations or anything like that
I should say, I have had no rechecks or customers complaints anyway
The last Rav4 I replaced one on, did not fit real well to the body
It had been torn off in a road rage incident and I figured that was the reason
I will not be buying a factory one anytime soon I can say that
I do not do much business on Rock Auto unless their parts are also listed on Ebay
