All the photos of 4WD trucks having the guard that I’ve seen show short spacers between bottom of the guard , and top of bumper, probably about 1 1/2” in length. I’m fairly sure that the arms would also be different, in both length and curvature. Aren’t the “frame horns “ different on 4WD vs 2WD? I have a complete restored guard for my 66 2WD awaiting installation, including support arms and the bezels that hide the holes cut through the core support. I am nervous about cutting the holes through my good condition original core support, though I have good info as to location to cut them.
Not to hijack OP's thread, but you found one?! Awesome!
Just found the Cardo camper shell for it last December for $100 bucks.

Norm,
Nice Slick and nice topper ! I had a topper that looked alot like that one....it was also outfitted with window screens, insulated and had woodgrain paneling on the inside. It gave up its life to save my truck as a tree fell on it. I wish I could find another one.
[QUOTE=1966F11;21200247]Been back lurking around here for a few weeks now; used to be quite a bit more active back in the later 90s/early 2k’s with a ‘65 F-250. Lost that truck in 2010, and then found this ‘66 F-100 factory 4wd short box in 2012. 390/NP-435/NP-205/Dana 44 front/Ford 9” rear… pretty standard. Just found the Cardo camper shell for it last December for $100 bucks. It was a Custom Cab from the factory, but I turned it into a Ranger cab with all correct parts, salvaged from a ‘66 F-250 factory Ranger, including the Mustang seats, ‘64/‘65 Falcon center console with correct mounting brackets, and original gas tank cover. I had the seats recovered, but I went with the Mustang Pony interior seat covers instead of the standard Mustang covers… not correct for a true Ranger... Just a personal touch. I like the horses!. The dash is refinished with all new NOS gauges in a refinished dash insert, and a ‘66 Mustang rally pac. Power steering is in along with power brakes, but still all drum… have the front disc conversion yet to do.
I have a question for you or anyone else out there with knowledge. I noticed the red stripe on the side trim. I picked up a 1966 2wd ranger a couple of years ago and am currently working on the restoration. It had the same red stripe in the chrome. I thought it was a vinyl tape that some previous owner had added because I had never seen it on a truck before. I removed it. Now, after seeing yours, I'm wondering if I made a grave mistake. any thoughts out there?

Thanks BarnieTrk… thanks! Yeah it’s a great shell… I spent a long time looking for this one. This one had the screens at one time but I have to replace them now. I’ll have to find one window screen frame; maybe make one. No insulation or paneling in this one; just open frame. At least for now. I need to replace the rear door lifts as they don’t work anymore. Going to try to use a set of Bronco lifts that I have…they’re the same type, but a little different. Going to be painting the shell too, so stay tuned!

Hi DenWall;
I put the red stripe on the side of mine about 8 years ago; it’s not factory or anything. I just masked off the area and sprayed it down with some red model paint that I had on hand, and clear-coated it. Kinda lame, but it turned out pretty nice and it’s lasted this long. On the earlier trucks up to ‘64, they had the red stripe on the side trim from the factory, and I just like the look so I replicated it. The side trim changed in ‘65 and they didn’t paint them from the factory (anyone correct me if I’m wrong on that, but I’ve never seen it from the factory on ‘65/‘66 side trim), so that’s why my red stripe just goes to the door, following the lines of the side trim, and not all the way down to the front of the truck like on the earlier trucks.
If you had it on your truck before, it must’ve been from a previous owner, as you said. But easily replaced if you should decide that you like it, so definitely not a grave error.
I grew up in Loomis. just down the road from Auburn. I'm in Houston now.
Ah you joined the great migration to Texas! I’m up 49 in Nevada City. Beautiful, and my family has community ties for over 50 years here, but increasingly expensive and crowded. We will be joining the migration in a few more years… retirement will no doubt force that. The bummer is that I just got California YOM plates back on my truck a year or so ago!

I'm down at the beginning of Hwy 49, just a bit south of ibuzzard, love your truck and the color! I too will be joinin the great migration getting out of Kalifornia at some point and heading back to the Mid-west where I grew up, it's a shame, as I love the areas I live and work in, but this state continues to lead the way in stupidity.
Anyway, great looking truck and nice to see others driving them on the Golden Chain!
Thanks Pickupmanx2! I’ve owned three Slicks and they’ve all been Caribbean turquoise. It’s a great color on these trucks. Was considering doing the two-tone scheme with Wimbledon white on this one, but I’m going to repaint the shell in Wimbledon white with Caribbean turquoise on either side of the windows, so I’ll probably keep the truck the one color. And indeed… great to know there’s more of you guys along 49! It’s a great weekend drive, if one can afford the gas!!
