Hey all, I just picked up a 93 7.3 idi non turbo that has been sitting 10 years. Just bought new batteries, and for now, I’m feeding it from a 5 gal diesel can with a universal diesel pump. But I still haven’t gotten any fuel out of the injection pump. So far I have: bled the fuel system, checked the FSS multiple times, and it works, and installed the universal fuel pump. I’ve also drained the injection pump, filled it with mineral spirits and let it sit for a day, then drained it again then filled it with atf, and still no output out of the injection ports. I also got a tip to block the return line then crank, but still nothing. I’m just trying to rule out absolutely everything before replacing the IP, any tips or anything I’ve missed? Thanks.

10 years is quite a bit of time, so I think soaking it longer might be a good idea. Not only fuel gum, but rust may have set in, especially if it had been parked with water in the fuel.
Perhaps open the triangular cover on the passenger side of pump and see what drains out. Dont lose those little bolts, put a magnet underneath. Drain whatever is in there out, put plate back on then loosen line from filter head and see if youve got fuel from filter. If so, fill filter with ATF, loosen all 8 lines at injectors, crank and see if ATF eventually comes out. If it does, let it soak overnight.
Another thing to try is to get pump really warm with a heat gun, but get all hoses and wiring way out of the way first. Patiently heat the entire pump body till its operating temp as sometimes that will help thin out gummy deposits. If you can set a heat gun under there and keep pump just about too hot to touch for several hours might help.
Might be as simple as fuel shut-off solenoid on pump sticking! Make sure you've got +12 there when key is on or put your own +12 lead on temporarily.
Probably gonna be best to rebuild any 10 y/o pump anyway.
