power locks

my power locks no longer work either with my fob or the door control. I can hear a relay clicking and they are trying to move, but don't quite make it. Anyone else encounter these problems

I have had the same problem in both doors. Replacing the lock actuators took care of it.

Curious:

Where are the actuators and how much are they? Are they hard to replace?

Thanks!

I've had to replace 2 on my F350, the Ford mechanic told me he's had to replace all 4 on one truck once before.

Each of mine were covered by the extended warranty with a $50 deductible. I think they are about $75, but I could be wrong. They raise and lower the lock **** so I would think they are straight down from there.

Question? Does any one know if a bad door relay would cause this?

If it is the relay, it shouldn't move at all. If it moves, just not all the way, it is the actuator.

Are both actuators connected together. It just seems strange that bothactuators would go at the same time.

On my 99 f250 v10 if you lock the passenger door the drivers door will lock. If the passenger door is unlocked neither door will unlock. Is there a way to isolate the actuators. I believe that the passenger door actuator is probably the bad actuator. Or could both actuators be bad?

Yeah, is it one actuaor or both that need replacement? Or is it a switch or a bad ground?

I have the same problem with my 94. The driver door works just fine and unlocks both doors. The passenger side just makes a noise like something winding up for about a second and maybe the **** pops up a 1/4 inch but doesn't unlock either door. It also does the same to lock.

I am suspecting maybe a bad ground for the passenger side switch since the driver side does make both doors unlock, the the passenger switch doesn't. I did once remove the passenger switch and open it up and used a contact burnisher(like a mini file) but that had no effect.

Sooo... Is it the passenger switch, the passenger actuator or maybe a bad ground somewhere?

Note I live in Oregon so there is a lot of moisture at least half the year and it does cause corrosion inside the truck on bare metal surfaces. The driver switch is used all the time, the passenger switch rarely.

I am cheap and also prefer fixing the exact problem rather than shotgunning it by replacing a lot of parts.

Thanks,

Jim Henderson

ok there is an actuator in each door. So if one lock isn't working then just that one needs to be replaced. So for each bad lock, it's actuator needs to go too.

When they work intermittently it's the actuators. I had to replace 3 door actuators on my 99 Superduty. They are around $50.00 each. Not a fun job.
