Tires

I’m looking for an AT tire that looks good but can still be driven at highway speeds without the road noise driving me crazy. Just wondering what you guys/gals are running?

The better tire manufacturers make aggressive tire treads computer designed with slightly asymmetrical tread void sizes to offset and cancel sound so overall the tire is not really loud. I think the biggest factor for tire sound is how wide the tire tread patch is. I have had the same exact tire Cooper ST Maxx in three different sizes, and the small 33x11 was quiet, the 34s had a faint hum, and the 35s have noticeable hum. Over many years I have run a large variety of AT, hybrid AT, and MT, and I think tire tread width is the biggest sound factor.

1st set of General ATx, expected them to be a lot louder based on looks. A low hum in background, not in your face. I've been happy with handling also, haven't had them in any mud to speak of.

I'm happy with the Michelin LTX MS2 on my truck. I put the LTX AT2 on my previous truck and they were a very nice ride but I think I took a hit on speed rating. I never intend to drive above 100 mph so they were still fine for my needs.

I've been running the Kumho AT51's on my 2011 truck. They are on track to last as long as advertised which is 55K. Unfortunately the AT51 has been discontinued and the AT52 is now their all terrain offering. Both tires are three peak snow rated. The AT 52 has proven itself off road but has also revealed it's short comings on the road in heavy rain whereas the AT51 shined brilliantly in wet conditions. For this reason alone I will not purchase the AT52's when the time comes though the price point is impressive. SE Virginia gets far more rain than snow.

It's back to the drawing board and painstaking research for me. A couple tires do have my attention such as the Michelin LTX and the Firestone Destination. There are a couple other honorable mentions. Since I'm retiring in about 18 months, I may just get back into a more comfortable HT tire such as the Michelin Defender series.

Initially I had Michelin LTX on my truck. As I was towing a lot and wanted something with better traction. I chose Falken Wildpeak tires. Looking at the tread design (similar to BF Goodrich All terrain). Thought they’d be louder but was pleasantly surprised to find they were actually quieter than the OEM tires. Have about 35k on them now with 5k towing a 7500 lb travel trailer. Tread depth still around 10/32. The tires have become marginally louder as they wear but nothing significant. Love them.
good luck on tire choice.

Falken A/T4W has been amazing for me so far. The A/T3W is also top notch if you can still find a set. I've used every AT tire on the market, the Falkens are king.

Another vote for Falken Wildpeaks. I'm running the AT3W on a Jeep, and a RWD Ranger. Really like them in all scenarios.
Another really nice tire, is the Toyo ATIII, not quite as good on ice as the Falkens, but I'd buy them for the 150 again.
I've had the Falkens on the Ranger for around 3 years, BTW.\Falken has since dis continued the AT3W, but I would expect the newer AT4W, to be at least as good.
I've run Coopers/Mastercrap, BFG KO2's, Goodyear Duratracs, Goodyear Adventurers with Kevlar, and even the total crap Hankooks AT/M, I've now found my two go to tires.
