Hello everyone, brand new to the forum here, long time lurker. A couple years back I had the opportunity to snag a 72' F-250 Highboy, one of my favorite pickups Ford ever made. The truck is from WA state and sat since 91. I bought it from a gentleman who planned on parting it out but he felt it was too complete to do so. The bed was trashed so he sold me a replacement camper special bed and through two okayish grilles for me as well. The old bed had hay when is was parked so it rusted completely out. I need some help with sourcing wiring, and relocated the fuel tank to the rear. The only tank in the truck is the cab tank, the side tank is completely gone. There is no wiring running to the tails. I've looked with no luck finding a rear harness and am wondering what you guys recommend for a rear tank "kit" of sorts. So far I've redone the brakes (new drum kits, shoes, drums etc.) There is no parking brake so I need to replace that as well. The motor runs with an loud audible lifter tick, I figure I'll deal with that when the time arrises. Pretty rambling post from a new member so please forgive me but any advice is appreciated.
First, NICE TRUCK!
Second, I went with a universal Painless Wiring Harness (P/N: 10102).
Third, the easiest rear tank is from a 60's mustang, I went with a Suburban Tank as it was 30 gallons.
Good luck, you can look at my build to see my tank install and do a search on the site as lots of people have done different styles.

As far as the OP. I like the truck. Are you sure that is a 72? Maybe check the frame and the door tag. The grille on your truck is a 70 and those were a one year only. The 71 and 72 have deeper inserts that wont work in a 70 grille. Also, the bed should have marker lights above the bump at the rear and if thats a filler neck on the bed it should be below the bump line starting in 70. Besides some things that might have been swapped, these are definitely my favorite trucks as well. The 72 f250 I have been building, looks like your in the Wimbledon White. I need to wire my tail lights as well, as soon as I paint the bed. Im probably just going to make it when the time comes. As far as a rear fuel tank goes, I have seen others do the mustang tanks and suburbans ones. I have stuck with the in cab tank on my truck. Good luck.
Thanks brother will look into that, I like the idea of running one of the painless harnesses for the entire thing and just going new wiring all together, long term plan is to put the cab on a Super Duty frame and utilize a 5.9l Cummins I have had sitting for a while. Wiring is definitely not my strong suite though so it will take some courage and lots of time.

Yeah I believe the og grille was smashed the seller sent me on my way with three or so grilles for it, truth be told when the time comes I'm going to convert it to a 67 grille probably new from Dennis Carpenter. The truck is indeed Wimbledon White, I'm not sure I'm going to keep it the original color or not when the time comes but it is a neat color, I have a 66 mustang fastback that I'd like to do a GT350 tribute so who knows, might be cool to match the two. The bed was definitely replaced so all that is true, I think I'll shave the cab tank filler when I do body work and hopefully utilize a large single tank that I end up frame mounting. Short term goal is to get it running and stoping while I focus on the donor chassis.
