Hello all,
New to the Forum but not to Ford
I am looking to purchase a 1997 F350 Regular cab short bed 4x4. Needs a lil work and I am pretty handy. My main issue right now is the fuel tanks. The truck doesn't have them mounted. Trying to figure out which tanks/pumps/hardware I need to buy and where.
I have done a lil research but not positive for my application. Seems to be quite a few tanks. Would like to go with bigger tanks if possible but also on a budget. Where would I be able to find diagrams on how they mount and wire up? Thanks
Welcome to FTE! I'm assuming you have a 460 in the truck? I also doubt that the truck is a short bed, Ford never made a 3/4 or 1 ton truck in a regular cab short bed. As far as fuel tanks; the rear should be an 18 gallon, and the front should be a 19 gallon( if it's a gasser). You can get a 38 gallon bronco tank for the rear if you want.
Thanks Red!
Yes it is a 460. Been doing a lil research and yes it looks like it was a regular cab long bed but now has a short bed. Was reading on the Bronco tank. Is that all year Broncos that had the same tank? Will original hardware work? (I have none. Have to order all new). So I guess I should be looking for the 38 gal rear and 19 gal front.
There are a few different bronco tanks that were used. I think if you do a search, I'm sure you will find reading material for a day or two. There have been a few write ups on the tank swap. Maybe it's a 16 front tank? Can you post a few photos of the truck? A couple of the crossmember at the rear of the cab?
If they converted your regular cab long bed to a regular cab short bed, I do not believe a fuel tank will mount in the front location as the transfer case is in the way. If I am wrong (and I may be) only a 16 gallon will fit in the front. As for the rear tank the Bronco is 32 gallons and does not fit as well (in my opinion) as the 38 gallon truck rear tank (Spectra F26e).
Look up 38 gallon rear fuel tank swap.
