Backup Camera issues
- Backup Cameras issue
- Initially it was only the normal backup camera. Upon delivery, everything looked great. After a couple weeks though, it would display colors over the objects in the image. Colors would be blown out. It eventually stopped working intermittently. Sometimes this would mean the camera feed was blue, other times the feed wouldn't come up and would display a bring to dealer message. When it did the dealer message, it wouldn't allow me to use any of the cameras. I brought it to the dealership, who replaced the camera. All was well for a few weeks.
- Tailgate-down camera: Worked great upon delivery. I don't use my tailgate-down camera very often, but as it happened, I picked up a double pallet unexpectedly last weekend, and it required me to leave my tailgate down while hauling. I found that I was having a very similar issue as the normal tailgate camera had previously with one small difference. It also appeared like the camera was dirty while having the issues with colors, and eventually the camera stopping working intermittently the same way as my main tailgate camera. I have an appointment at the dealer to replace this camera tomorrow.
- When I scheduled my appointment for the tailgate-down camera, I noted that my other camera had been working fantastic since I had been in to get it replaced. -Bad move on my part. Later that night, it started acting up again. So now I have two cameras in the rear of my truck that don't function correctly. While it may be that the tailgate-down camera needs replaced, it feels like this is a different issue as well. Something with the wiring to the cameras, or the imaging unit responsible for these cameras. My guess as to what's going to happen tomorrow is they're going to replace the tailgate-down camera, my normal tailgate camera will not be acting up at the time, and they'll send me on my way, mission accomplished. It'll work for a couple weeks, then it'll start acting up again. Or maybe there is an actual issue with the camera, and because they switch between them it does have some kind of effect on my other camera... Maybe I'll get lucky and replacing the tailgate-down camera fixes both issues. Here's to hoping.
- As long as the system isn't brought down by the rear cameras not functioning, all of the other cameras have functioned flawlessly.
Anyway, they ordered an image processor. I also asked that they have the camera they told me they ordered on hand in case it's actually bad. I don't want to have to make this trip yet another time to get this resolved. I guess they'll call when they get one in.

My 24 did the same thing toward the end of January and still waiting on parts from ford. Dealer thought it was camera and ford engineering flagged the order and contacted the dealer.

Dealer called and said they started replacing the harness and it was full of water. (I'm guessing the loom or something) The water got into a module that is supposed to switch between the top and bottom camera. They said they're taking pictures to send to Ford because this may be a problem on other trucks as well. They have the module on order, and it should be there Monday or Tuesday and I'll likely have the truck back early next week. I'll keep updating the thread once I know more.

The tech said he replaced a tailgate module. It was in the tailgate. He said they pulled the harness and it was full of water, and so was this module. A few pins were corroded as well. So he took pictures to send off to Ford, and tried ordering a new part, but couldn’t get a part number or something? He talked to Ford and they said there were some on the way to the US, but weren’t here yet, so he got permission to take one off of a truck they had in stock. He said it was a KR, if it makes a difference. I’ll put the RO below and follow up with another post about what’s going on now.
Maybe there’s a software adjustment I can make for this? I checked the cameras immediately when picking the truck up and noticed the problem. I went back in and they got the tech to come check it out. We tried pulling it inside, where it looks great. So he speculated it could have been the way the sun was hitting it. It isn’t. Either way, now I’ve got this to work with. It’s the top camera, so I’ll rarely be using it, but for this much money, it should be perfect. Here’s a photo for illustration. It’s still clear, so it’s a lot better than before, but you can really tell with the 360 view what I mean.
