Good morning. I have these items near and on the firewall. The black object appears to be part of the speed control which does not function. Judging by the holes and dry rot might have something to do with that but not sure. Is this after market? I cannot find parts or info on this system. The control part is mounted to the blinker lever. Fix it, leave it or remove it? Thanks
I also added a picture of an unknown item(s) at the rear of the intake. There is a vacuum port on it that has been disconnected by previous owner. Also not sure what the item is next to it.

Yes that is a cruise control part, if you have the control buttons in the steering wheel horn pad then you have OEM CC. But since you have the controls attached to the turning signal lever (stalk) you have a after market could be dealership installed set up. The thing next to it and attached to your EGR plate, could be a vacuum valve?

Yeah, yours is aftermarket or dealer sourced. Whether or not it's worth fixing is dependent on your desire to keep it. I recently bought a second NIB old stock one off Ebay just to have the parts if I need them for my '77. Mine too is aftermarket, and the vacuum servo on the firewall has the rubber diaphragm enclosed where yours looks exposed? Mine been in place near 40 years, works beautifully still. My buttons / switch I fashioned using parts from Radio Shack just 'cause I enjoy doing stuff like that.
To remove or replace the turn signal switch ... depends again on you. Do you want to use CC?
I used to use mine a lot, trips to Georgia or Alabama to visit in-laws, vacationing up the east coast or through the mountains, trip to get a motor bike in upper Vermont, bike meets in Pa. ... but while it works, I don't see me likely using the '77 for trips any more.
As said it is up to you if you want to keep CC or remove it.
Me where I am now I use CC on my DD almost every day but up north the traffic was so heavy you could not use CC.
I wish my 81 F100 had CC and one day I may look into finding a kit to install.
With that said I think I would keep an eye open for a NIB kit so I knew I had everything to make CC work again.

I have the DANA one as sold by Sears/Allstate # 318.20302 ... and I had used one in a '67 Chevelle before. I searched Ebay last year, found a NIB old stock, bought it. Was near $100 I think. There were others. We used to have a mall with a Sear's surplus store, I had bought mine there in the '80s, like $25 or so.
Best to leave well enough alone. They're not hurting anything back there, they just look a bit unsightly. If you remove the EGR valve you'll have to make a block off plate as you'll open up holes directly to the exhaust riser and create an exhaust leak under your hood, which is not good. The pipe with the capped valve is a similar deal, where that pipe ends up in the exhaust system somewhere, either the back of the head or elsewhere, going into an exhaust port of some kind. If it's all sealed up currently, you might consider not messing with them.
