I think I screwed up

Ok I got fuel at the gas station drover the truck to my shop fine started it and for some reason it doesn't want to start it does I take off fine suddenly engine starts to stutter. I turned around and brought it back to my shop may have traveled a total 1/2 a mile. Got in a work truck and went home will mess with it in the morning. Started to think CRAP did I put gas in my Diesel? Look at receipt yep I sure did......DUMB. What should I expect? Motor gone?

It’s an Insurance claim.

How many gallons did you pump in?

Definitely gonna be replacing fuel system components. Probably won't need a new engine.

Putting gas or DEF in the diesel tank seems to happen a lot. They should make the diesel tank filler opening a different shape to prevent this from happening. That’s too bad!

I can see putting the wrong spout in the truck but how do you click the gas button instead of the diesel button to get things going?

Not saying this applies to the OP in any shape, way or form, but I’ve seen this many times, leave your phone in the truck! Get your collective head out of your ****, and focus on what you are there for! People pumping gas, checking out at stores, etc, while on their phone is a very touchy subject for me. Do the job at hand, talk/text later!
To the OP, hope is an easy fix, good luck!

Have it towed to dealership or a reputable diesel shop. Have them purge it all out. Believe it or not, it might be ok after cleaning the tank out, purging all the fuel lines out, and installing fresh filters. Don’t panic yet.

I hate this for ya OP. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just move on and start making it right. None of us make it through without a screwup.

Oh yeah, heck, my dad had dozens of diesels, from pickups to 18 wheelers over the last 60 years, and a few years ago he called me from the side of the road after he put gas in his 2013 F350.
But, like his truck, very likely that you did no permanent damage, flush the system out, new filters and drive it away and don't look back.

You will get through this. Don't let it get you down. Stuff happens.
