I have a 2019 F350 SD 6.7 diesel, 4 WD. I have noticed a couple times it will shift HARD while driving from 6-5th gear. It feels like I was rear ended! After a few seconds it’ll shift back to 6th gear. I just bought the truck a few months ago. ANY help/suggestions appreciated!
Driving steady, no acceleration or deceleration, flat road. No hills, just cruising along and not expecting a shift at all. My wife thought we hit something. It hit that hard! Fluid looks good, no burnt look or smell. Level is good.
Any idea if the trans maintenance has ever been done? If the truck is over 60k miles I'd recommend changing the filter with a new Motorcraft filter. Put the Dorman OE pan ($30) that has the drain plug back on in place of the one that doesn't have a drain plug if you need to. Then you can drain and fill the Mercon LV as needed. Takes about 9 quarts of LV to fill back to spec once you change the filter.
Yeah I bought mine at 81k. First thing I did was go front to back and do ALL the service. Diffs, t-case, trans, engine oil/filter, fuel filters, the whole nine yards. That way I KNOW what's been done and I can take good care of the truck from here. Did it all myself in the driveway and I've probably got $400 total spent on the entire service front to rear. Only thing left is coolant flush which I will do in October when I install the block heater. Good luck.
I have the same truck you have. I bought it used as well, had 32k miles when purchased now has 77k. Fortunately mine is shifting fine no issues that you speak of. If no one chimes in with a better solution I would do the a transmission fluid change, as others have suggested. Also a good time to inspect inside the trans also the fluid. I would look closely at the shift solenoids perhaps one is sticking you may see some unusual wear or burnt on fluid?
