Im stumped here
today i got to the store turn truck off to get gas. Wouldnt start back up. The positive battery terminal was real hot and started melting the post. Left big crater in post. Changed it and when reconnecting the positive cable the engine started like trying turn turn over constant by itself. Thought to turn the key on and it turned over so i flew home. Now wont start. Idk never seen anything like that
Sounds like your fender mounted starter relay (aka solenoid) is stuck closed, constantly powering the starter.
Post pictures of your battery and fender mounted starter relay connections.
That happens sometimes with a low battery and sometimes you need to replace it
Charge the battery fully and re try it
Might need a new starter or a solenoid depending on year and whether you have 2 solenoids or not
Always post what you are driving or working on
As they say you get what you pay for. Ask for top of the line part, yes it will be more money but well worth it in the long run.
This is a known issue in the 80 - 86 truck area, cheap do not last.
I replace the one on my 81 F100 w/ 300 six as it would only click at times, yes all connections were good and clean and the cables new.
It even got worst when I pulled it apart to make sure connections were clean.
I bought a NAPA top of the line solenoid and have not had any problems in over 2 years.
If you drove home with the starter engauged yes you may need to replace the starter also.
