Name this oil leak

6.7L 30k miles, appears to just started a minor leak, coming from where trans meets the back of the motor in the passenger side. It’s starting about the 2 o clock position, starting up next to exhaust pipe, running down the side towards where the oil filter is. See picture.

had the rear main done at 18k, lower pan done 1500 miles ago. I personally changed oil to 5w 20 1300 miles ago, and it wasn’t there as I’ve inspected every inch of the truck then. Glanced under today after hauling heavy, It’s not bad, but I assume it will get worse. I’m just gonna run it, but curious to what it’s from.

what would it be from? Seems to high up for a upper pan, and rear main?

Is that the same location it was leaking from when they said it was rear main? I have seen several pictures of 6.7l oil leaks from that same general area, suspected to be upper oil pan.

The rear main was leaking in the photo I had marked in red (below). Never anything above that area circled in red. It would come out from center of motor and puddle in the red circle.

Made it approx 10-11,000 miles without a leak, I kept checking.

i am wondering if its the turbo, leaking into the V and coming down from between the motor and trans?

by looking at a diagram it seems it’s leaking above the upper pan

Same as mine. Ive been spraying it down with brake clean every oil change for a 100k miles. It’s either a rear main or an upper oil pan. If its the upper its a cab off fix if its a 2022 or later, rear main just pull tranny.

by what you said it appears mine might be a rear main. Yours is definitely coming from much higher.

yours is leaking just like mine was, and mine was a rear main. I’d have that fixed they just remove the trans. Although this then lead to a rear main seal leak on my transfer case, just got that done 1,500 miles ago

my leak now is a lot higher then yours and my previous leak.

glad I got the extended 7yr 200k warranty, I’m gonna wear that **** out as much as this POS leaks, I’ll bet by 100k I’ll have 3/4 the truck rebuilt haha.

Trans been removed, if upper pan now motor gets removed. I would honestly dump it by now for anything else but a ford, if it wasn’t for the warranty, as with its track record future repair bills look pretty high.

what I want to know, is how are these hot shotter guys doing it? Running 8hrs a day 5 days a week with 20-35k behind them. Mine can’t even make it 10k without leaking

my f350 has been great, but only cause it gets driven like a Mercedes 12k of its 14k miles!

but if it’s the upper, when I do decide to take it in, and they have to tear the truck apart (cab off, trans and motor out), maybe, just maybe they can fix my gas pedal assembly vibration!

i have a 150k warranty that expires in November of 2025, but i would be over 150k by years end. I’ll trade this off before then. Dealing with the service department is horrible and as like you mentioned, more issues its not worth it. These trucks are consumables, and i cant really take the time off for repairs as i work this truck.

That's true, the top of the oil filter adapter is about where the upper oil pan meets the block, and that seepage is well above that. I wonder what it is, because I have seen maybe half a dozen photos from owners with oil in that same general area.

yep, was hoping somebody else on here would chime in and maybe had similar leak and knew where it’s coming from.

seems way to early for a injector oring, valve cover, but I as leaning towards turbo. I’ll keep an eye out… it’s always something over here!

Make sure the ccv is not clogged, at engine idle remove the oil fill cap and see if there is ay pressure upon removal. A leak is a leak but if its from too much pressure, a properly venting ccv could end the leak

My 2022 with 7.3 has a trans leak that is high enough that it is leaking on the starter. Took it into a dealer and they "replaced" the trans cooler/warmer and it is still leaking. I messaged with a Ford tech on YouTube and he said they can leak from the vent on top of the trans if the 10R140 is overfilled. Mine started leaking around 30k miles and ran down my starter from somewhere. I'm not convinced it is the vent because I can't feel any fluid on top of the trans where I can reach my hand. It is absolutely a transmission leak on my truck but I can't find the source.

I am going to another dealer Monday afternoon for them to peek at it and see when they can get me in.

Mine looks the same. If it doesn't get any worse, I will just leave it. No big deal, ever drive a GM?

Are you really putting 5W-20 weight oil in a 6.7L or is that a typo? Keep us posted on the source of your oil leak and what was done to repair it. Good luck.
