does anybody know what I need to get from the yard to install one of these new rearview mirrors in a 90 f-150 , like one with compass and temperature , what sensors do I need to get from them too . Any info on this would be appreciated , Im looking to go with a newer style factory mirror .
It's a self-contained system, so all it needs is the button off the windshield (different shape from yours, so you'll have to get the original off your glass, too), power, & ground. Cut the harness as FAR away from the mirror as you can, and get the hard plastic tube that covers the wiring between the mirror base & the headliner.
There are several styles, but I prefer the ones with the rocker switch, like the pic above. I call the ones with the slide switch "GM-style", but that's just me.
I've pulled them off Crown Vics, Town Cars, Grand Marquis, Toyota 4Runner Limiteds, Oldsmobuicks, and a few others. Usually '95-up. It's hit-or-miss, because some of those vehicles offered an overhead console with a compass in the more expensive trim packages, in which case they got a cheap mirror - opposite of what you might think.
The one with map lights can be found in S-10s, Blazers, and convertible Mustangs.
You probably won't get much help calling junkyards - they don't inventory the rear-view mirror, so it won't show up on their computers at all. They'd have to send someone out on the yard to search, and even if they found one, they couldn't be sure you'd show up to buy it or even accept the price they quoted, so they'll probably just tell you "No". I suspect that, if you want one, you'll have to talk your way out onto the yard to look for yourself.
Many parts stores sell them - JC Whitney does - but they're $125-300 new.
