I saw a Ram pickup the other day with 17" black, steel wheels, or "steelies" as I always heard them called back in the day and it made me reminisce about the 2 trucks I've had in the past with black steel wheels! My 20" OEM chrome wheels are flaking horrible, and they'll definitely be replaced when I need new tires and I'm thinking about 17x9 black steelies for my 2017 F250!! Found a nice set online and you sure can't beat the price!! Anyone running these classis on your Super Duty??
I ran steelies on my last dually because I rotated all 6 tires every oil change and cleaned the patented fomoco brake dust off the rims and tires so they wouldn't look like trash. I had steelies on my OBS for the winter time. The only drawback is how much heavier they are when you are rotating frequently.
Steel wheels are for folks who want long lasting and reliability. A little rust preventative on steel wheels and they last indefinitely. Though like mentioned, they are heavier.
Every alloy wheel I've ever owned on cars or pickups has ended in sadness and shame whether they've been in road salt or not. Alloy wheels eventually leak air from somewhere no matter how you treat them or seal them.

My OEM chrome wheels look hideous around the edges! The best thing about those classic steel wheels is the ability to rattle can them if they get damaged or rusty. I just can't get onboard with the modern wheels and think that a throwback classic like these would be great!

its time for some new tires, i have been buying new ford takeoffs for my last 2 trucks. I do 50k miles a year and go through tires with a little towing and a heavy foot and hate going to tire stores so enjoy the plug and play of take offs. Tired of the black lariat wheels. I think i want these.
I am surprised there are not more/better steel wheel options for these trucks.
I have the OEM 17"x7.5" steelies on my XL. If were to change them out I'd want 18"x9" so I could clear larger brakes and and have a "supported" wheel width for 35" or 37" tires. The OEM 18" steelies are only 8" wide and it is slim pickings for a 18"x9" 8x170 steel wheel.
Same experience, slow leaks from aluminum corrosion & cracked rims if they take a good hit. Nice thing with steels is of they get a beed bend they can usually be pounded back to shape & easy to get a good seal.
