The bank and I own a 2002 F150 Flareside 4.6L V8 Automatic. So far I have installed a Hypertech Programmer III (Set at Premiun and Firmer Shift), K&N filter and a Raven Dual exhaust exiting behind the Passengers side door. Next I'm contemplating a Helix Throttle body spacer. At this point my issue is when I put the pedal down at around 40 or so it takes a second or so for passing gear to kick in. I want the truck to kick into passing gear as soon as I put the pedal to the floor. Any suggesstions? What else I can do to increase the performance?

Where you at Pearl Harbor?
Anyway, I've installed the Hypertech but I didn't change the shift. I don't have the time delay you mention maybe it's in the changes you made. Try going back to the stock shift points and see. If so you can continue playing with it.
As for the Throttle Body Spacer, look around at other Forums and you'll read the poeople who bought them say they are a waste of money. I was going to get one but now I don't think so.
On another note about you delay, think NOS.
Hey Thanks. First off I spent 4 years on Boomers (Ballistic missle subs to you land lubbers ) Second I'll give the suggestion for the shift change a try and save my money on the spacer. I'm just now in the process of setting up the truck so any and all help is greatly appreciated. NOS! the trucks a commuter (110 miles a day 4 x a week) god If I did that the Maine State Police would be on my tail ASAP.

I was on two subs and work on them now at Pearl Harbor that's why I was asking. I thought you lived on the island.
Yea don't waste your money on the spacer. Good luck let me know what you find

Just got thru racing up and down the road out front after switching back and forth with the shift firmness and no difference. Maybe the 4.6 is alittle slower on the up take than the 5.4 or its fine and I'm expect instant gratification like the old mechanical 4bbls.
What about the MAS, maybe dirty? (There's a procedure for cleanning it).
Maybe were looking at the trans shifting and actually when you jump on it the engines starving for a moment not knowing what to do.
Your right about the 4bbls.
Anyway, wait for some of the experts to come on line. There are some really smart people in this forum. I'm just a backyard monkey trying to help. Those guys should have more for you.

The 5.4L and 4.6L use 2 different torque converters. The 4.6L will stall higher than the 5.4L. The F250 with 5.4L and R100W also has a higher stall speed and higher shift points.
All of these trannys seem to have a bit of a delay when it comes to downshifting. I guess this is a preprogrammed thing to increase gas mileage. Unless I go over 1/4 throttle when I first take off, mine shifts into 2nd at 10mph. Kind of anoying sometimes.
The delay is annoying, but from what I have seen, it is just the way they are designed. I guess it takes the old computer a minute to figure throttle position, vehicle speed , current gear, then it has to decide whether you really want it to downshift or not.
