which Options? window deflectors, mudflaps bed extender etc..
This past December I sold my tired 2002 Supercrew Lariat and bought a loaded 2023 Supercrew Lariat and wow what a truck. I'm looking to add some options onto this truck that I had on the old one and liked. Back in the day there were fewer options but now there are so many.
I plan on getting the OEM Ford mudflaps. A friend swears by weather tech but they are more money and look a bit chunky on his truck.
I liked the flip out bed extender on my old truck. It was really handy. I do not like the chunk plastic one that Ford uses so what are my options on that?
The biggest issue are the side window deflectors. The old truck had the stick on ones but the in channel ones look so much slicker. My weather tech fan boy says that their, in the channel type can cause issues with the window going up and down due to the sensitive pinch safety built in. What company makes an in channel wind deflector that will allow the windows to function as they should? It looks like Ford only offers the stick on type.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
I always get the wheel well liners for rear of truck since Ford does not include them. I also get the OEM "mud flaps" all around just because I can use my points for them. If you are looking to spend some money, a nice tonneau cover is handy. I like the BackFlip MX4 because it is compatible with the remote operated tailgate and is hard aluminum providing some additional security above the soft covers. The hard rollup tonneau covers are intriguing but I don't like that they consume so much of the bed on a short bed truck; I'd probably consider one seriously if I had a 6-1/2 ft bed. I'm also considering getting a dashcam just because of all the lowlifes on the roads these days (I think dealers offer these and will let you use your points toward them as well).
I'm going to get the Ford mudflaps. That Backflip MX4 looks cool. My neighbor has something similar on his Raptor. The only issue in getting one is that I think it would interfere with how I generally use my truck . I bring trash bins to the dump, load it with firewood, haul bikes etc.. it seems that most of what I put back there sticks over the bed rails.
I'm curious about the wheel well liners. Do they collect junk like sand, salt, dirt behind them that will damage the frame over time? My 2002 truck suffered with the frame rusting and the 1993 I had before that had the same issue.
No thoughts on the wind deflectors since I've never used them. I did put a low profile bug deflector on to keep the front of the hood from getting chipped up from road debris.
I see how the MX4 mounting rail might be damaged by the some of the stuff you load your truck bed with; I've had snow blower, lawn tractor, furniture and appliances loaded in mine but its always strapped down so I've never had to worry about that. The whole thing does come off fairly easily, though, if you don't need to do it very often. You can remove it in about ten minutes but it takes longer to put back on because of the adjustments needed to get it aligned properly.
The wheel well liners are supposed to prevent accumulation of road grime and salt between frame and body and when I look under my truck I don't see anything trapped up there but I do wash my truck, including under carriage pressure spray, on average of once a week.
I don't run wind deflectors, mud flaps, or a bed extender. But I do have the Weathertech Floorliner HP mats- that's their premium offering. Better than the standard ones. I like the DeeZee rubber bed mat. On the tailgate I use a bedrug (I don't have the step). Undercover Armorflex trifold tonneau cover is great and made in the USA.
On all my F150’s I’ve tinted the front side windows, as it looks better and really helps keep some of the heat from the sun out and cool air in while running the AC.
I’ve had Avs rain and hood deflectors on my last two and current trucks and have been happy with the appearance and functionality. The Avs rain (window) deflectors are stick on, and have a lifetime warranty. However, I’m not clear if the warranty is from Avs or the business I’ve always purchased truck accessories from.
I have the Weather tech mudflaps and am satisfied with them.
my current and previous tonneau covers have been Truxedo (I think I’m spelling that wrong lol) roll ups and I’ve been happy with those too.

I run these floor mats that I like better than weathertech. https://www.tuxmat.ca/ In Canada Costco sells them under the name Phantom. Great company and have excellent customer service.
