emission light

1987 f150 4x4 4.9 c6 emission light came on and stays on. No codes on scanner. the truck has only 63000 on it. Is this light on a timer or something, And how do I reset it ?

Thanks
Ed

There's an box under the dash that you can reset, or just unplug. It's just a reminder light set to come on after a certain amount of run time, usually around 60000 miles to tell you to check the emissions equipment. The Haynes manual shows a picture of it and describes how to reset it. It won't throw codes, because it is completely independent of the engine computer. It won't hurt anything to just unplug it either. It's under the dash, somewhere above the gas pedal - it's a small black box. I don't think disconnecting the battery would have any effect, but I could be wrong.
