Hello and Help

Hello everyone

I'm looking to buy my first classic truck.

Currently looking at a few examples in the UK:

- 1964 Ford F100 Custom Cab (my fav choice but worried it might be too rusty down below. See pics attached...)

- 1952 Chevy 3100 (very nice but rather expensive...)

- 1963 Chevy C10 (nice but has been fitted with Air tech air ride and seems to bounce down the road. Normal?)

Can someone pls tell me if the rust on the underside of the F100 is an issue or not and a dealbreaker? See pics.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I can post pics of the other Chevy trucks if anyone is interested but it's a Ford forum so...

I wouldn't blink twice. Cab corners, floor pans look excellent too. I've seen 10yr old trucks worse than that.

I agree that's practically no rust at all. Some folks over here are trying to fix trucks that you can see thru. It looks like it has a Dana rear axle. Most were Ford 9 inch. Post a picture of the warranty plate.

If you could only but see the rusted-out hulks that some over-enthusiastic buyers here drool over - the same POS which I would not even consider looking at - you’d appreciate having access to such an decent example in the UK. I’m personally pulling for you to go Ford, but any old iron is good, IMO. Good luck on your search.

Rust is not an issue with this truck (at least not from the pictures). Frame is very solid. You might need a new pinion seal.

Thanks for all the help. Seller wont budge on price and I’ve now decided to increase budget. That truck was £25,995.

I’m travelling over next week but can only get to view one of these trucks so I’d really like to get some input from experienced owners which would be the better buy, better value, easier to live with, get parts etc, and half value.

A. 1957 Chevy 3100.

B. 1940 Ford F-Series.

1952 Chevrolet 3100 V8 Auto - £49,950 Chevy V8 plus lots more. ore modern suspension as I see it.

1940 Ford V8 Hot Rod Pickup Truck. Superb,High End Build – St Andrews Autos - £39,950 Also Chevy V8 and nice mods but leaf spring rear still.

I think there is a chance of knocking a few thousand pounds of each but not more. T(e Chevy has already been reduced from £59,950. The Ford as far as I see hasn’t been reduced. Both are US vehicle specialists.

These are the two nicest I see right now. Could wait for more choice, but both look nice.

Oh, and I have a 600 mile drive home so which has more chance of getting me back in one piece comfortably!

I’ll post photos of each underside in next posts.

Thanks in advance!

That’s also really clean. Rust-wise, either one is fine, that Ch**vy looks real good.
