Passenger floor leak help

Whenever it rains there is a wet spot on the passenger floor between the seat and the door. I pulled up the carpet and can’t find where it came from. Cowls are clean and no water from there. It doesn’t look like it’s running down from anywhere. There was another small wet spot on the back seat floor (supercab) between the front seat and rear wall about 18” in from the side wall.

Any ideas where to look? I may end up pulling out the bench seat and carpet and flooding it with water but that’s the last resort. Thanks for your help!!!

If you have a '78-'79 style weatherstrip it's worth a try to replace the lock strip, it stopped my leak.

lock strip as in the rubber piece that goes around the enitre door opening? I bought new ones to replace but the ones currently look to be in good shape

Lift the rubber mat and make sure that the leak didn't originate at the front firewall from the hood seal missing and the cowl sump not draining properly because it's full of leaves or pine needles.

Dry under the mat. Cowl vents are clean

The body filler in the drip rail has been known to fail in which case you have to remove the old and put in new. I had that problem on my 87' crew had to grind it out on both sides and refill. It stopped the leak and moisture problem immediately.

OH... OH ... I see it.

The doors take in water during rain, washings, etc, the more rain, the more water goes past the Anti rattle glass strips. They don't stop water. The bottom of the doors have drain holes, like long slots. That lowest part of the door jamb has a slope to it so as to run water from the whole upper side of the door opening between the sealing rubber and the door to deal with ... plus the water flowing out of the door drains. If you park on a level, the slope runs water outwards on both sides. If you park the truck where one side is higher, the higher side slope is closer to level. If you joint the two ends of the door weather strip there, it will let water in towards and over the threshold. The factory put that door seal joint up higher on the slope or even up on the vertical there near the seat rear, which is above that lowest sloped area.

yes, I saw that and that makes sense what you’re saying. I also pulled the rear jump seat out and noticed water was underneath the jump seat on the passenger side so I think it may be something with the drip rail above the rear side windows. I’m going to do more investigating this weekend.

The NOS seal I put on the back window leaked on me when I was washing the truck. Water dribbled down right under the back seat of the sc. Still does as far as I know. I keep it in the garage.

That was the major source of water for me. Ran the hose test and when it hit the sliding rear window it shot in through the bottom passenger corner where the sliding glass meets the solid glass. Preliminary online searches and I can’t find a replacement strip for under the windows.

Does anyone know where to buy this rubber piece or have a part number??

So it was a trail of wetness leading from a rear slider in your super cab to the passenger door at the sill?

Glad you found it .... was a thread with stuff for the sliders. Sliding rear window - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)

Yep, water flows downhill and that’s the lowest spot. There was a little bit of water seeping in from under the door as well but new door seals should clean that up.

the threads don’t talk about replacement tracks just the issue without any resolve unfortunately for me

Deadbuck, I put this in your other thread about the rattle in your roof. I should have put it in here for everyone following this. I used the flowable silicone from permatex. I applied it between the rubber and glass, and between the rubber and cab, with everthing already installed. It has almost completely cured my leaky windshield and rear glass.

Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer, 1.5 oz.

Did you review the links in post #15 that Rich included therein the thread Sliding rear window - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com) ?

Mine has the OEM slider from 1977, had a couple of the plastic latches break, found a metal one, but by then I had simply sealed it shut and locked with a couple strategic pop rivets. I only ever used it when had a shell on it. The frame forms a channel to roll roof run off to the sides, but wash spray is a different issue.
