6.2 6 speed. 31k on it. Cruising around at slow speeds. I'll get kind of a thunk at throttle tip in, as if there is a bunch of slack in the driveline. Not noticeable at any other time really. But it does sound like crap. Heck even my wife noticed it..lol
Anyone else have this issue?
Yeah I always thought the slip yoke lube was for the thunk at takeoff. But what the heck, I'll give it a try and if it solves it great. I'm not counting on any remedy from the dealer.
If you have a 2-piece driveshaft (IDK if they still have those in the new trucks), you might check your carrier bearing. When they start to go, they go fast, I had one go out in a 68' that went out in the span of a week. It's a quick check, too, just crawl under and see if the bearing (assuming it exists on your truck) is loose (if it can be wiggled by hand, it is bad). If it's one piece, other than just the slip yoke, you may want to check if the differential has any play at the yoke. If it does, that could be a source of such a sound, and that's an issue that would have to be fixed to drive the vehicle for any length of time. Just my two cents, but again, I'm not familiar with the new trucks, so take it with a grain of salt.
It's been awhile since I read into it, but if I recall correctly, many of the posts were from owners with very few miles on their trucks, and it seemed to be mostly those with the 6.2l engine. At least for them, it would rule out some of the worn parts, or loss of lube theories.
I had searched those threads in the past because of a click type sound I get when coming to a stop in my 6.7l truck. After reading the driveline clunk or slop threads, it became apparent that wasn't the same issue. Mine has no perceivable clunk or slop on acceleration deom a stop or from coasting, from what I can tell, just a click sound when the trans downshifts to 1st.
I've had what I believe you're describing in my 2020 7.3 since it was new. I get it most noticeably at about 1500 RPM 3rd gear when I gently step on it. 42,000 miles now no worse. I figure hey, it';s a Ford, it's supposed to make a clink here clunk there!!!
