New Member talk

Hello there everyone,

this is my first time finding and using this site so bear with me here and if i talk out of line about something the rules here do not permit please let me know.

I have a 2001 F350 4 door XLT Lariat.
White exterior with Tan leather interior.
I purchased this truck new here in Utah back in 2001 and it’s now been my garage queen for 25 years.
Truck has 136000 miles mostly all highway commuting to work before retiring to my shop.

Truck has rear air bags, 4” exhaust, 411 gears, dual front stabilizer steering kit, rino lined bed.
this is a true 4 door short bed truck.

truck has a 4” Spring lift with 20” Rims and 35” Tires.

this truck has been our baby for years and is all original paint and interior and is like new. look into the fenders and under the truck and it is spotless always freshly painted to look new. i have an Edge programmer on the truck. has a heavy duty trans cooler and also just added a 15 qrt tranny pan.

i have had an issue with the truck feeling like it’s wondering on the road when driving and that drives me crazy.

Put on a new Steering box. did not help.
just replaced all front wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods and front bushings. did not help.
replaced all rear brakes they were due.

i have had many people tell me this is one of the cleanest 7.3 Trucks they have seen on the Road and anytime i take it out i usually get stopped to talk about it.

i have spent 4,000 trying to fix the handling and i am getting very frustrated can’t seem to trust even the damn dealer on what’s wrong. any ideas from anyone hear??? could i have a body bushing somewhere that’s maybe bad making the truck feel like it’s over correcting in the road???

I am also considering selling. can anyone give me an idea what this truck might actually be worth. i have been offered 32,000.00 and 34,000.00 when i’ve been out driving.

Welcome to FTE dgot, great looking truck! My 02 F350 is only at 154k, although not quite as clean as yours!!

Having had this issue on my 02 Excursion and a few other SD's that have been lifted, check your pitman arm nut!! Torque the living ***** out of it, yes, even after replacing the steering box, just 1/4 turn on that nut will change everything, almost garunteed! Seriously, I bet I've tightened at least 6+ of these, and made it a part of oil change was checking it, had friends have the whole front end rebuilt because it was old, only to have it still do the same thing, I got my socket and breaker bar, cranked it down and viola.. try it, you have nothing to loose and everything to gain!

These trucks like positive caster. Too much negative caster makes the truck feel like it is wandering or twitchy. Positive caster makes the truck feel more like it wants to go in a straight line.

Lifting the front suspension also has the effect of taking away positive caster.

The wondering feeling just drives me crazy it’s like i’m always over or under correcting to keep it in the lane.

Were you able to get a chance to tighten the pitman arm?
