I’m in the middle of installing the Pirate 4x4 procomp lift. I thought I correctly ordered everything that was posted about this lift combo. I ordered Ubolts from PMF (3” x 8.5” semicircle front axle kit)
I’m installing the front leafs with the 2* shims and it seems the 8.5 length Ubolts are too short on the driver side. On the passenger side they are barely long enough. I have one thread past the nut, not torqued to spec . My truck has dual steering stabilizers, there is no way the driver side will work with the stabilizer bracket.
I ordered some longer bolts, but curious if I’m missing something or I just ordered the wrong ubolts. The springs are seated on the perch, no gap.
When I did mine about 6 months ago the 8 1/2 inch were too short for the drivers side. With the nuts torqued down there was about a two thread recess. I called PMF and explained my issue and the guy helping me gave me a little discount (unasked for) and shipped them out same day. Had them in a couple days iirc.
That's interesting 4Kids, because if I'm not mistaken I did pretty much the same thing you did with the pirate recipe, even removed the bottom leaf in the front and rear and the 8 1/2s were too short for mine. Head scratcher I guess
I just went out and took pictures of mine, and you are correct, the driver side bolts should be a bit longer. My apologies for my bad memory. They have about 1/8" of nut thread still showing. The passenger side is perfect though. However, this is with the bottom leafs removed. Therefore, I believe this recipe should be changed to use 9.5" front U-bolts! You can always cut them off if they are too long.
For the record, the rear U-bolts are plenty long enough.
That's exactly how mine look. I do have the 9 1/2" on hand , ordered them after realizing the problem. But I haven't installed them yet because I'm trying to find time to install the pair of 4.10 axles I picked up. I am going to reinstall the bottom leaves as well at that time and see how I like the ride.
But yes, based on my experience I think the recipe should state 9.5" ubolts up front as well. Other than that, the pirate recipe lift has been the best thing I've done to my ex in the 20 years I've had it.
... to install the pair of 4.10 axles I picked up.
I'll say this after towing my nearly 10K lb travel trailer today for a few hundred miles through Tennessee and Alabama on my way to Florida. These are not mountains, but hills. I have 4.30 axles on 285/75R16 tires giving an effective 4.15 ratio. I wish I had 4.88 gears!
