As most of you know the headliner in my 73 f100 is some kind if fiber board I think. It needs replacing and dc carries them but they are kind of expensive for what you get. Does anyone have other options they have used? Also when I replace it should I use any kind of insulation or sound material above it?
Thanks
I built mine out of fiberglass and a lot of folks have made them from ABS plastic. Both of those options deal with moisture much better than the oem cardboard. Don’t know about the insulation… it might help with sound but what does it do for moisture and condensation.
Here's what I did with the headliner in my '76 F350 supercab, Ranger XLT. The material covering the fiber board had started to delaminate and was sagging in several areas. I removed the headliner and took the fiber board to a local upholsterer and had him cover it with headliner material that coordinated with my tan interior. I've been pleased with the results, but reinstalling it was a PIA, doing it by myself. Much easier as a two man operation.
I didn't have any board to make a template for my missing headliner and new reproductions are pretty expensive for what you get.
I found an alternative where Jeg's is selling a Repops brand headliner. It rolls out and seems to look original.
I'm several months out from installing my interior, so I have no first hand experience installing one but here they are: https://www.jegs.com/i/Repops/629/FT154/10002/-1
A Youtube video that sold me on the idea, (not mine.)
I followed co425's instructions and made my own. Just added a few more securities to keep it from falling/sagging down. Like adding red, white, and blue buttons.
