I was inspecting the front end because, once again, its death wobble time. I found what appears to be two seals, one on either side, that aren't attached to anything. They're located just inside behind the brake rotors. I don't even know what this part is called. It's not a ball joint or any other linkage with which I'm familiar. They are both loose and just flop around. Is it something that should be replaced? How big a job is it? Thanks. Bill This just flops around loosely, whatever it is. Some sort of grease seal?
Those are just dust seals at the end of the axle tube, the oil seal is further inboard. You would have to pull the hub & axle to replace them.
I'd be more concerned about the death wobble.
Thanks. Seems like it would be pretty involved to replace them for little benefit.
On the death wobble, this is the third time I’ve had to address it. 2008 F250 King Ranch. First two times it was the track bar that needed to be replaced. This time I’m not so sure, as the track bar seems pretty tight. Does anyone make a replacement track bar that has grease fittings on it that might wear better? Same with the ball joints.
