How is the best way to clean this? brake cleaner? And how does the plunger come out? Do I need to lower the steering column to get this apart? I took this apart to clean it so the key switch will return back easier. I ordered a new switch and keys. What type of grease do I need for this? thanks for any help
Don't use brake cleaner around any plastic parts. It is too strong and can damage plastic. Electronic contact cleaner will work and is safe around plastic.
As said in your other post that is not the switch it is just a key and lock that turns a rack & pinion that moves a rod that runs down the top of column.
This rod hooks into the switch and this switch over the years get gummed up and filled with dirt. Electronic contact cleaner will work to clean and lube or just replace it as it is cheap.
I found cleaning mine got it to return back with out help and been good for over 5 years now.
