ignition problem?

Hi,

I have had a problem with my van (1994 Econoline E150 5.0) in the past where the ignition just stopped working. It started with intermittent problems, but ended in the van completely not running anymore. Back then i took it to a mechanic who told me he had to replace the ignition computer (which nowadays i doubt.. does it even have one?)

Recently though, i think the problem is coming back. Sometimes there is a shock while driving.... it might be because of a bump in a road and i'm just being paranoid, but i just want to be sure and maybe bring some spare parts since a vacation is planned.

Anybody know which component this is?

regards. Willem

Ignition problems with your TFI system
First, your module is fender mounted and they seldom fail
Second, the processors on the older ones are failing these days due to the electrolyte leaking out of the capacitors on the circuit board
That is something that will cause your concern and something I would look into before any long trip
I have a sense of humor and a littlle dough, so I ran my 94 van all the way up to the Olympic Peninsula with a bad processor
Hardly made it home it was missing so bad
Already had replaced the stator in the distributor and the module, tested the coil and replaced all the wires tune up etc.
You do some or all of that and still have trouble, you better check the processor is how it goes these days IMO
Use all Ford parts
Find a DU-30C Motorcraft stator and have someone tear your shaft out of the distributor to replace it
Do not buy a cheap replacement distributor unless you have a sense of humor and want to break down on the road
Good luck with the diagnosis
My van now runs great with a new processor I happened fo find

Misfire with no codes? How much did you pay for PCM?

Right, misfire with no codes
I paid 425 for the new processor directly from Cardone
Still have a hard time with it being a new one
All the Ford processors we sold at the dealer were reman ones from Ford
Not sure who made them for Ford, for me to even be able to get a new one
