Hi All, I.have a 95 E150. I bought it at a auction. It was a stolen van that was recovered. The ignition was tore up and.a screwdriver started it. Now the ignition is totaled. I bought a universal ignition for it. I need some information.
1. When sitting in the new ignition, Do you take the wires from the plug attached to the underside of the column and run them directly to the new ignition?
2. If not, Do you leave them connected to the plug and splice them?
You need to get a testlight. Harbor freight has them cheap. Find the original ignition coil, usually they are mounted on one of the inner fenders. If you find it, unplug the small wires, one of them should be a white with blue stripe. If you find this wire, ground the testlight and probe that white/blue wire while someone turns the key to run and start. If the testlight lights up in both positions,, you can use that wire to power your new ignition, whatever type it is.
P.S. I assumed you are talking about a new ignition for the engine. If you are talking about a new keyswitch with new keys, that is something different and is all mechanical.
