I have a 78 F150 with factory air. Problem is the flexible ducting located behind the 2 center dash vents has crumbled away, Does anyone know of a source for this flexible duct? I have my dash all opened up but can not find the replacement part.
It's clear the OEM duct material was inferior and putting the same back in would be a mistake IMO. These places here and here have a good reputation and certainly can give you the best advice in how to proceed .
You just need 19B680 correct? If you can not find one in the links from Red Road, I am sure I have one or 2 on my parts stash. And I seem to remember one that is like new. Off to the parts shed to get eyes on it.
Thank you for your suggestion. Those sources do have round flexible ducting in various diameters. I would have to fabricate an adapter to put a round duct into a square hole. Doable, but raises the complexity.
If you have access to a 3D printer you can print your own adapters for the cost of printer filament. The post linked below has information on how I fixed mine. Feel free to ask questions here if you go this route.
So you ordered the actual duct or the 3D adapter? My 2 spares are not as good as I thought. Well one (L/H) is re-useable with a little taping. The other is if you are motivated to use a certain amount of duct tape. Speaking of duct tape, if you need the good stuff and some better than Gorilla tape, use T-Rex tape. Let us know how well you like the 3D set up and how well it works for you.
Yes, I ordered off Ebay, a 3D printed adapter set complete with the round ducting already attached and ready to go. Supposed to be simple install. It has not shipped yet and I will let everyone know how long it takes to arrive and if it fits easily and correctly. Fingers crossed!
OK, I received the 3D printed duct adapters along with a piece of flexible foil duct. It fit perfectly with only a little jiggling to get it in. I had the air conditioner controls and radio out along with the center vents. This allowed plenty of room to work. I attached the duct material to the adapters with the supplied zip ties before starting to install. I then fitted the lower adapter first, and then fitted the center vents back while guiding the vents into the adapter from the space I had through the air conditioner control area. One thing I wish I had done before installing was to spray paint the inside of the duct black. It is foil duct material and the silver color shines behind the vents.
