I run 14k (dual axle, single tire) & 22K (dual axle, dual tire) for work. Our dealer explained the weight rating, stated 14,000 is gross total (weight of trailer + cargo). Our 30-32’ trailers with single tires, empty, weigh 5000 lbs. 14,000 lb - 5,000 lb gives us a max of 9,000 lbs cargo.
To be safe, I’d check the load tag on trailer or with dealer /manufacturer for empty (tare wt).
