This is our first truck where we have had to deal with DEF fluid. We do know that the harder the engine is working the more DEF it consumes.
We are looking at pulling a heavy TT in mountainous areas where DEF may not be readily available. We have looked for the capacity of the DEF tank on a 2024 F350 XLT in all of the FORD literature that we have but we cannot find any mention the tank capacity.
We would like to know the capacity of the DEF tank and receive any recommendations on how much DEF we should carry for these out of town trips.
We would not be looking forward to the truck to going into limp mode when we are 100 miles away from the nearest supply of DEF.
Any assistance or advice will be greatly appreciated.
When I fill up the DEF tank at the pump, I carry an old DEF jug and fill it up to carry with me.
On a typical work weekend, running 2200-2400 round trip, half towing, I will end up dumping the jug in at about 3/4 of the way through the trip.
Could usually make the trip without adding the jug, but then I would have to deal with the stupid low DEF warnings for 300 miles, driving me crazy, popping up before the gauge is even down to the halfway mark.
Also, if you fill at the pump, all the way to the top, you will get more than 7.5 gallons in.
