They basically connect the wheels, bearings and brake components to the axle and allow the front wheels to be able to turn. Look behind your front wheel. You'll see the brakes and caliper, a bit back towards the axle you'll see a U-joint that drives the front wheel when in 4x4 mode. The connections above and below the u-joint are the ball joints
I would verify proper tire pressure (45/55), front end alignment and, of course, rotors warpness. A worn steering dampner could cause some vibration (mainly on turns encountering a bump) but wandering would also be a symptom. I would also verify proper torque on all your wheel lugs.
Guys, testing for warped rotors is pretty easy. Take the tire off and place a pencil or something on a stand close to the rotor. Turn the rotor. You should be able to see if it is really warped. Needless to say, if you are experiencing vibrations when not applying the brakes, it is not a rotor problem.
I got the x back, and it seems that turning the rotors cured the vibration. I also had the new style pads put on. Maybe the old pads were lying in contact with the rotors all the time, adn this led to heat buildup and vibrating slightly before the brakes were applied? Anyway, got to go back this morning, I had them change the tranny fluid, and now I have tranny fluid leaking. I think they reused the spring type clamps on the cooling hoses. I am going to take them some screw type clamps and have them use them.

Yeah, they redesigned the V-spring on the pads. Glad it's fixed!!

Funny, they shouldn't have had to remove a line with hose clamps on it. If they flushed it, then they should have unscrewed the lines running to the cooler.
