Hi I recently bought a 1992 f250 5.8 with a e4od auto trans with a map sensor and im a big manual guy and wanting to swap it to a m5r2 or zf5 trans but what issues will I run into ?
I also have a 1995 f150 5.0 with a swapped m5r2 trans and presently found out the reason of a weird “miss” that I’ve had and it is because the trans are bolted to a speed density engine form factory and my 5.0 is a MAF system so it seems to want to shift and or hesitates on the when on gas at certain throttle and rpm
with that being said I mostly want to know if I would be able to swap a manual on the 5.8 with the map sensor it has and if I would experience any issue or if I could possibly swap ecu and all is good
I’ve tried to do a lot of research of both truck and there’s not a lot of the info I’m looking for besides stuff like what’s the best trans lol
if you know anything about doing this type of swap please help me.

It really depends on if you want to mess with it. It SHOULD run fine with just the manual swap and the gear selector switch in the park position.
Or you could get an aftermarket ecu and set it up for a manual.
Thanks for the feedback but with the aftermarket ecu I’m not sure where or even if anyone has them due to the fact that I’m pretty sure the computer on the 5.8 still is obd 1 not 2 so I’m not exactly sure how that all works are the obd 1 ecu reprogram able or not or is there oem ecu for that model truck that is meant for a manual trans that is just plug and play.
I ran into the same issue on my 5.0 MAF that I swapped a M5OD in to. I ended up putting in a engine bay wiring harness along with a engine wiring harness and of course a computer from a 1993 5.0 MAP 5 speed truck to correct my "miss". I was told leaving the gear selector in park or neutral would work, but it did not for me. Since your 5.8 is already MAP, you should be able to put in a manual ECU and be good. There is a wire you'd have to grab from the junkyard. It plugs in right beneath the brake master cylinder, I believe it goes down and connects to the reverse switch on your transmission.

thanks for the info but I’m still tossing up the decision of swapping but in the case I didn’t how did you go about swapping your MAF system to a speed density I’m not too familiar with how the speed density all works and wondering how hard it would be to do. Thanks
Well, you're truck isn't MAF so you're good to go man. Just grab a manual ECU, plug and play. If you're looking for info on the procedure of swapping auto to manual, I did a write up with lots of pictures if you're interested.
