The A/C head unit on my '04 Ex has succumbed to the "defrost/heat/AC along with blank screen" Gods.
I found a company out west that will inspect/repair the internals but I need to get it out before I can send it to them. I've searched the forum but can't find a thread depicting how to remove it.

Any leads would be appreciated.
Lastly, will the truck run/drive without it?
First off verify they fix Excursion head units, I had to buy used.
Remove the radio, there are 2 screws above it holding the dash trim on.
Carefully pop the dash trim off, I use plastic tools. Disconnect headlight switch wires. Set parking brake, pull gearshift all the way down (engine off) disconnect 4wd,, rear defrost and back up sensor wires. Move dash fascia out of the way, disconnect power point if you need to.
Control head has 4 screws, remove those, disconnect 2 wires behind unit.

FYI, once the radio is out there may be 2 1/4' hex screws on the underside of the radio opening securing the dash bezel to the frame behind, these are present on my 00 parts X.
Please ensure that they fix the EATC that your Ex has. Many repair services only fix the EATC that has a wheel fan control and not the push button type controller that many Ex’s have. I had to source a remanufactured one on EBay because no would fix the EATC on my 03. This was 4 years ago and I believe that they are extremely hard to find now. As mentioned above you might have to go the salvage route, good luck .
Thanks guys for the input. Can anyone verify the truck will run and drive without the head unit in it while I'm waiting for repairs?
FWIW, this is the head unit in my truck. I'll follow up with the place I used if it turns out positive.
that is the EATC with the push button fan control that I mentioned, check with the repair service if they work on that unit. Yes your Ex will run fine w/o the controller installed
