I go thru it too fast to just jug it at a time. It eats it pretty good with heavy towing,

My 2024 is a different animal than my 2016. The 2016 would go 5000 miles and that would include 1-2 trips of pulling the camper a couple hours away. The 2024 has already needed a full tank after 3700 miles and pulling the camper once. I guess I'll need to keep a couple jugs handy for convenience.

My '19 is super easy on DEF. I've used about 4 gallons in the last 8,000 miles and that includes some moderately heavy towing. I'm pretty happy with that. Would rather not have to fool with DEF at all, but if I've only got to fill it once per year I'm fine with that.

Do you have the 6.7L PSD H-O?

def usage is dependent more so upon use of the truck,

Have the H.O vs standard 6.7 does not mean a whole lot.

I can use a whole tank and some change from PA to FL, a 1200-mile heavy tow.

Big frontal area, running 15-20 lbs. of boost the whole way. I don't have the H.O.

Did it again. Road trip pulling the 5th wheel. Crazy winds, only got a little over 9mpg this time and it was guzzling the DEF.
So, it gives a DEF warning at 425 miles to go if I remember correctly. It seems that once it hits that warning the countdown begins and it's "stuck" regardless of future DEF consumption.
I started the trip with 97% DEF. That was a whole tank of fuel after topping it off at a pump.
On the return trip, I got the DEF remaining mileage warning not far from home and with 51% DEF remaining. I'm sure that if I had towed under the same conditions, it would have drank the rest of it in ~425 miles, but I parked the trailer and have a couple hundred miles of driving without a load. DEF level has only dropped to 50% so consumption went way down but the mileage warning continues mile for mile. If it works like last time, it'll go into limp mode despite having half a tank left.

TLDR: Once I hit the mileage warning for DEF, it's going to count down the miles and go into limp mode regardless of DEF level or consumption. This is silly with 1/2 a tank and thousands of miles worth of DEF to go.
