Running boards

Hi all. My factory running boards are bubbling and peeling the chrome plate. I like the black traction on them, but I am ready to replace. Its a 2017. Does anybody have a good recommendation for replacements that hold up to the elements? I plan on keeping the pickup awhile and want something that is rugged and look good. Please let me know what is working for you. Thanks!

Luverne Grip Step are the most rugged and durable I could find - the HD version has additional struts that brace the brackets against the frame and the boards have next to no flex. The boards are aluminum so no worries about rust. The expanded metal design also has the best traction of any running board, period. They're also highly effective at clearing boots of snow or mud, which falls down through the board instead of getting dragged into the cab. I believe the height of the step is very similar to OE Super Duty.

The brackets are powder coated steel, which does flake and rust after a couple winters worth of salt. The powder coating on the aluminum wore away a small spot on mine where I always put my foot. Both issues were easily resolved with a quick shot of epoxy spray paint.

They do have a utilitarian look, which isn't for everyone, but I don't know of any board that functions better.

My 2019 boards were doing this. I replaced them with some OEM from a 2023. Got them on eBay for $150 shipped, I got a better deal because I told them I didn't need the brackets and they took $40 off. They were "new pull offs with minor scratches" but were perfect to me.

Dee Zee makes an almost identical step to the Luserne, but with aluminum end caps. Strong as getout, no flex with a 300 lb. person standing on them.

Oddly enough I opted for Fords cheapest running board on my 2024 and love them. Nice firm plastic with great traction and easy cleaning. My 2019 chromes peeled as well.

I wanted chrome, but Fords best board they make is their solid black plastic ones. I had them on my 17 F159 STX. Nothing to corrode, peel or dent. Plus after 7 years, they still looked new, no fading at all.

Put I-Boards on my 2016. Held up good. Cost was very good. Sat a little higher than I preferred but not a big deal. Poor customer service. But not needed, just never received any response to a question I asked them. They had longer boards that went to the rear wheel. I don’t have a good close up of them.
