I have an '87 F250 6.9L IDI NT with an intermittent cruse control problem. I have replaced the two control switches in the steering wheel and the problem is still intermittent. Sometimes I can set the speed on the first try, sometimes on the next or but sometimes never until the next trip when I try again. Once the speed is set I can usually use the ACCEL button to increase speed and by touching the brake or depress the OFF control button I can disengage. If I don't turn the engine off the RESUME button usually works. It is hit or miss! I never know if it is going to work or not. I have located the AMP, SERVO, DUMP VALVE, AND CHECKED THE BRAKE LIGHTS. All the electrical connections appear to be tight and none of the vacuum lines seem to be leaking. I can't locate the problems so if anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Remove the steering wheel pad and flush out the switches with Denatured alcohol. These switches are constantly getting dirty from skin oil and dust. A good flush usually returns it to a working state. If you feeling ambition, you can even disassemble the switches and scrub the terminals for the like-new feel.
