Absolutely positive. There IS a common problem with running from one tank and having it not only pump to the engine but to the other tank, but in this case your rear would have gone up instead of down. Maybe you have a wiring problem so both pumps are running or something. Really strange.

Cross Tank Fuel Flow recall 93S68
Check for recall should still be good ( 12 years, milage ?). Your rear tank is going to your front tank. Check out alldata.com for recall 93S68 http://www.alldata.com/TSB/20/92201602.html Call Ford service department with your vin number. Also tell them whats it is doing. I think they will add a check valve and a new fuel pressure regulator. Do a advance search above for Cross Tank fuel flow. On my 87 my fuel selector valve went bad and did the same thing, they changed the setup in 1990 though. Carfull your front tank can leak out and also build up pressure. Try a Google search for Ford Recall 93S68 for more info.
