which is a good replacement steering stabilizer? i want to get the rancho to compliment my FX4 package but i noticed that FabTech and SuperLift also make them. anyone have opinions on any of these upgrades? is it worth it or just worth the looks?
This is what I've been told by those in the know: All shocks/stabilizers that are branded by the lift kit manufacturers are generic and are produced by either Gabriel or Monroe.
My opinion is that the big heavy-duty stabilizers are too stiff for most applications. They don't allow or will too slowly allow the steering to return to center. I prefer the stock stabilizer. Having to actually return the steering to center after turns is annoying. If you're not off-roading the truck and just want the visual effect, I would just paint the stock one white, and add a Rancho sticker if you like. If the original is leaking, look for an OE takeoff.
The Rancho direct replacement part number is RS5410. It is available for $37.99 from summitracing .com and will bolt to your existing mounts. Hope this helps.
Yep, red boot is included along with an adapter bolt and spacer for correct fit. The whole thing is quite a bit beefer than the original. You have to call summit (800) 230-3030 and ask for it, as the RS5410 is not listed on their website. I got the model number from the Rancho application guide. Installed it in about 10 minutes.
I second what DUCNUT said, most liftkit manufactures don't make their own shocks. What your buying is their mounts. I run a dual Superlift setup and i'm not happy with how far it hangs down. Most makers mount the same way though with the exception for the Edge. Manufactures reccommend a single for tires under 35", and a dual for tires 35" and larger.
