Been a great truck for about 9 years but Last week my radio had no power, all fuses were good and couldn't find anything else that wasn't working until the following Thursday I went up north pulled a trailer all good until I tried to engage 4x4 but got out of some sand with some back and forth and got home all good. My dad said he would go over and take a look at it while I was gone on a weekend trip and see if I missed something with fuses or relays.
He tried to move it and it's running very rough but only in drive or reverse and stalled trying to move it up to the garage, I did use a nicer scanner I borrowed and its giving tons of codes

Pulled some dash panels and the 4x4 works again not sure what I did but nothing was loose or disconnected on the switch, looked at vacuum hoses, checked fuel pressure, removed the fuse box and gem to see if water was in there and messing with stuff but all clean no corrosion or odd burned looking spots, checked the engine bay fuse box and around the harness for wear it corrosion, checked all the grounds I could find in the engine area and both sides of the truck under the kick plates all were clean and tight, I think that about sums up what I checked but can look at each cylinder on a graph and will be fine in park still and in gear it's constantly missing on the graph but for whatever reason nothing shows up in the scanner for number of misfires.
Also motorcraft sparkplugs about a year ago with coils but I couldn't get motorcraft ones but doubt all them are bad at once.
I could check it but it was just soft sand and had to get moving with the trailer on, definitely no baja action and not worse than the potholes here. I did drive an hour and a half home after the sand and it only happened after it sat a day or two when my dad went to look at it.

Did something specific happen when you tried to engage 4x4? It's not really clear when, exactly, things started to go bad. You implied that it was okay until your dad went to look at it but why would he look at it if it was okay?
It does seem to fit a harness problem like Johnny Paycheck suggests. Good luck.
Nothing happened no 4x4 light or the normal clicking of a relay or what not so I just went back and forth a few times to get a little run at it in 2wd, drive home no issues it sat parked for a few days while I was on a trip and that weekend my dad came over and said it was running terribly and died trying to move it to the garage since it was backed in with the trailer it didn't want to go up the bump into the driveway I had zero power issues before he started it that day.
Check engine was on and off while testing last weekend sometime it's on check something else and restart it would turn off but no matter on or off it ran like crap in gear.

Your dad broke it, obviously. Find out what he did. The rest of the story.
Clear codes and retest
You have a bad connection somewhere
Run through the pinpoint tests for a few of those codes
Possibly the big plug on the transmission going into the valve body and shift solenoids is loose
Those harnesses inside the transmission have been known to fail

Check your transmission fluid my truck did same thing when the front pump seal started leaking at low speeds and high rpm it's expensive to have fixed but if you have the tools you can replace it fairly cheap but when you order the front pump seal say it's for the 4r100 with a 7.3 power stroke it's a heavier duty seal and consider a bigger transmission cooler
Oh and as far as coils go I got the bravex ones from Amazon the yellow ones because they cool with the yellow injectors. But I changed all 8 plugs to motor craft (also amazon) on my truck and my wife's expedition and put the bravex coils on my truck and paid the $150 a piece for motor craft on my wife's expedition my truck on March 12 this year will have gone 120,000km and 3 years without a missfire my wife's expedition Started missing 16 days after I did the plugs and coils so I took the coils back to ford who tried for about 45 minutes to convince me to let them exchange them for new ones eventually they refunded my money and took the coils back. I ordered the bravex yellow and same as my truck no issues since. I'm buying 2 more sets this Friday just to have 1 for her expedition and for my truck I plan on buffing the top of the plug wells with scotch Brite and brake clean and then high temp rvt silicone the top seal of the coil boot and a little at the top edge of the plug wells when I put them in because I'm tired of only making one or two passes through our local mud pit before water gets in them and starts missing all over the place and I have to blow them all out to go again
