In my F-450 I have a Wolfbox 840. It covers the RV mirror and to get a decent side to side view it renders the mirror out of service due to the black screen on the windshield and cover for the truck cameras. F&R video quality is excellent though and since its a truck I rarely use the RV one anyway plus it is hard wired in. With that said, I do have a second one, but its for a different car, and I picked up a new(used) Flex on Sunday and want a dash cam in it. I don't want another Wolfbox, but want a high quality F&R camera setup that is small out of the way but 4K quality with the same features. GPS, Intrusion, bumping, etc. that the Wolfbox has. I had to turn the bump part off as it was saving nearly every 3 minute file while driving and filled the 64GB card, so a few things I had thought I saved didn't even record.
I might swap out the wolfbox for something else in the truck, but the wiring is a PITA to put in and take out. SO those with the newer cameras, tell me what you got and what makes it better?
FYI the Flex is 10 years old so not up on the latest in cable tech IYKWIM.
When I went out looking for a dash cam I spent a lot of time at dashcamtalk.com reading reviews and real world experiences from people. I ended up with a Viofo A139 Pro. So far, so good.
is one of the recommended ones in the article above. Reviews are excellent on it. I just am unfamiliar with all these new brands out now. For a while it didn't matter which one you got because they all used the same guts, but these new ones have different options. I bought the small boxy ones with suction cup a few years back, and lets just say they wound up in the trash so I am skeptical on these at the moment.
I have the Ring Car Cam in both of my vehicles and love it, but it looks like they have discontinued it already after a year. Mine were preorders, but I have heard that no units went out to customers after the initial preorders were fulfilled - not sure if it was supply chain issues or what. Reviews have been mixed, but both of mine have worked great for my needs.
Dash cams have come quite a ways in the last few years. The standard now days is a 4K front, nearly all of the higher end cameras run at least that on the front and often on the rear. Mine has a polarizing filter for the front but because of my windshield tint I get too much distortion so I run it without the filter. I have also started turning the cam off when in my driveway, I am kind of leery of battery drain with the parking protection. I have security cams for the house so it covers the truck just fine. If I didn't already have the Viofo I would look pretty hard at one of the upper end Blackvue or Vantrue cams. I was sent a Vantrue S1 Pro to test and review that I need to get hooked up to my wife's Jeep. I think nearly anything from those 3 manufacturers would fit the bill.
I have a Vantrue N4 Pro in mine and the wife's Jeep. They work very well. Only gripe was the OBD connection killed the battery even though there's a "smart" setting that is supposed to monitor voltage and shut it down. I don't need it running when I'm not driving so I just wired it to be powered only when the vehicles are running.
Scoot up to the 2 minute mark for the part that had the womenz crying. Wish I had the audio on during this drive. I'm laughing, they are crying and my son was sitting in the middle of the back seat, too short to see what was going on and looked so confused.
Any way I looked at a bunch of reviews and the Redtiger F7N has some really good ones, especially customer support. The video is crisp and clean, and that is with the older imager. It now has the Sony Starvis imager, same as the Blackvue. Amazon has a $35 off coupon on it, so I ordered one. Should arrive today. Also ordered the polarizer lens and hardwire kit. $191 for it all with next day delivery.
A near collision from last summer. Reason enough for me to have a camera. I was pulling a 7x18 enclosed trailer at the time.
Couldn't upload it here so had to find a host.
