Timing cover differences

I cracked one of the bolt flanges on my old timing cover. I ordered one on ebay and the hope in the front for the nose of the crank is significantly bigger than what I took off of the motor. Was just curious if I should return that one or if I'm completely missing something here. Thanks!

Sorry Sean, you lost me. You ordered a timing gear cover for your 300 from eBay. The one you received doesn't fit because the hole in the cover is too small to fit over the end of the crank?

The hole where the front main seal goes is much bigger on the one i ordered than the one i already have. Was just curious if there were any differences over the years.

That I cannot answer but, there must be a reason. Can you return it? Some eBay sellers allow that. I don't need one for my engine but it's good to know there are different ones out there (in case I ever do).

Yeah I'm planning on returning it. Just keep and eye out for what you get because I didn't even notice before I ordered.

That's nice that you can return it.

I checked over at Gary's site to see if there are different covers. It seems as if there are two covers, AND there appears to be different harmonic balancers, too.

It doesn't say what the differences are but I'm guessing one of the differences is the hole size for the crank snout/balancer. We both learned something.

If possible, maybe you could provide a diameter measurement for the harmonic balancer seal hole, too? That would help determine which cover would go with the different balancers.

Can you post a picture of the two covers?
I've never seen timing cover differences before.

I also cant see the crank hole sizes being different between them but can see the timing pointers being different.

On the crank holes, are you sure the one you bought has a seal installed?
My guess is your old one has a seal installed and the new one it has been removed.

Also do you know what year the new one is from?
Then you can lookup seals between the 2 and see if they are different.

Just for information, I was pulling the motor mounts off my 4.9 today (the engine is in a storage unit, not at home) and noticed my timing cover was the D2AZ part number. So, very curious what Sean has to say.
