Hi all. Just picked up a new '24 F250 XLT with 18 inch wheels. Any idea of the wheel width? Not something that was on the window sticker and I want to upgrade to 35s next week.
Most likely 8". If you go to a 35x12.5x18 you will likely need at least an 8.5" wheel for some places like Discount Tire to install them. However, you can also just order/buy them from anywhere and take them to a local mom and pop shop and they will most likely install them for you.
Edit to add: You can get a 285/75/18 and that will get you a 35" tire, but it won't be quite as wide. it will install on an 8" wheel though. I just put 295/70/18's on my stock 18" wheel and I like them a lot. They fill out the wheel much better than the stock Wranglers, and they look better on the truck. These measure out to a 34.3x11.6x18, so not quite a 35" but it's close. Plus, they were quite a bit less expensive than the listed 35x12.5x18 tire too!
Adding some photos. The width of the 295's look really good, but I can't get a good picture of it... Also to note, these are the Falken Wildpeak AT4's, which are wider than some other tires in the same size.
Side shot.
Here's a shot showing how much they poke out... The Weathertec mudflaps are the perfect width to stop water/debris from getting thrown into the truck.
instead of going with the 35x12.50 I went with 295/65r20.
I know you have the 18s but it’s a similar thought process that I didn’t want the 12.50 tire on the 8” wheel. I’ve done it before and it wasn’t a safety issue but it does look kind of bulged out and I had a little harder time getting the air pressure right for tire wear.
My 295s are actually a hair taller than the 35x12.50 but about an inch less wide. I think they look great and a 295 on a stock 18 would look nice too.
As chadstick mentioned above, make sure your tire seller will mount the tires for you. I once bought and paid for a set of Falken Wildpeaks online from Walmart. To be installed at one of their local stores. 30 minutes after I dropped the truck off and left they called me. Against company policy to install tires a certain size above what is on the door decal. Got the money refunded to the card and exited with the truck.
Drove directly to a local branch of a regional chain and ordered the same tires. Actually a few dollars cheaper and they had no problem installing them.
If you want a so called "true" 35" tire, you'll want to buy something that is listed well above 35" in the manufacturer's data. Fast forward to 12:45 or so in this video for some more discussion on that:
